Ozark Greenways Adventure Race:
I wish I could do something like this. Things I’d need to be able to compete:
- Get in shape… A LOT better shape.
- Buy a mountain bike… and all the other gear needed
- Find 3 friends who would actually do this with me.
Little details keeping me from registering:
- I don’t run
- I don’t mountain bike
- They probably don’t let you use a GPSr during the orienteering challenge
And most of all:
- "Participants must be physically and mentally prepared to complete a 8-14 hour multi-sport endurance event."
Drat. Oh well. Let’s all just pretend that I’m the kind of person that does these things… I’m going to officially say I can’t go this year cause it’s the day after my 10 yr anniversary. Whoo! Off the hook. Now I have a whole year to either get in shape, or come up with another sorry excuse.

Dear Gentlewhisper, maybe adventure racing is for you. I just completed the Greenways event and I’m already exited about next year. The team experience is what I value most about adventure racing. You can really get to know your friends during an event like this.

Hi,
Adventure racing is not a sport for just elite athletes.
If you could devote 5 or 6 hours a week to training for the majority of the spring before next years Ozark Greenways race, you will probably finish just fine.
The races are hard, but the reward is great. The most important thing is to have teammates with the same goal. My team has done this race 4 times and our goal has always been to compete against the course the best we can and not worry about other teams. We’ve had very good success. It’s a great experience and I highly recommend it if you like the outdoors.
