Somehow, I’ve spent all evening reading about the Emergent Church movement. I blame it on Marla who linked to Annie who linked to this.

“Third, granted that the Emergent Church movement is driven by its perception of widespread cultural changes, its own proposals for the way ahead must be assessed for their biblical fidelity. In other words, we must not only try to evaluate the accuracy of the Emergent Church’s cultural analysis, but also the extent to which its proposals spring from, or can at least be squared with, the Scriptures. To put the matter differently: Is there at least some danger that what is being advocated is not so much a new kind of Christian in a new Emergent Church, but a church that is so submerging itself in the culture that it risks hopeless compromise?”

Even to ask the question will strike some as impertinence at best, or a tired appeal to the old-fashioned at worst.- The Emerging Church, by D. A. Carson

Which somehow lead me to:

* Emergents and Modern Reformeds Should Get Together
* A discussion between Micahel Horton and Andrew Jones concerning the Emergent Church.

I told you I wanted to learn more about the Emergent Church… now I need to read more about that and Modern Reformation.

God willin’ and the creek don’t rise, I’ll get to go back to school next fall.

Yesterday Sarah cried out in pain. I asked her what was wrong. She said, “I stepped on my own toes.” Hmm… I might start doing that.

I stand at the edge of offensive. Stepping gently on the shoes of my readers. Some will cheer. Some will jeer. Some will buy steel toed boots. All will call out in unison, begging me not to rhyme or ramble on when I could just say:

I stumbled upon Resources on Televangelism by the White Horse Inn during my Web surfing this evening. No idea how I got there. I post the link here with no value judgment because I have not yet listened to or read all that they offer. I just thought it was interesting to come across such a site so soon after the Tilton post.

Aurora bus driver allegedly intoxicated

George especially praised a high school student who ushered about six younger students off the bus before their regular stop.

“I think” the teenager “did a brave thing, a wise thing getting those kids off the bus,” said George.

“Based on the probable cause statements, it looks like the bus came close to striking a couple trucks head-on. It was a rather dangerous set of circumstances.”

On KY3 and in the news paper, this high school student gets mentioned only briefly. I want to know more about this young person.

After seeing some hurricane coverage on TV, Sarah said, “Our house is builded with bricks. Like the piggies.” Apparently Katrina is a very big bad wolf.

FOXNews.com - U.S. & World - More Than 750 Iraqis Killed in Bridge Stampede
BAGHDAD, Iraq — Trampled, crushed against barricades or plunging into the Tigris River (search), more than 700 Shiite pilgrims died Wednesday when a procession across a Baghdad bridge was engulfed in panic over rumors that a homicide bomber was at large.

We turned on Fox News for less than 5 minutes. Jeremiah used to ignore the news unless they were doing the weather. Now he just asks questions.

“Mommy, did God see them? But why didn’t God do anything about that? Mommy, stop crying. - Jeremiah

Just heard from Kelly Godzwa. They’ve made it to Costa Rica. Got their coffee maker hooked up and their computer on-line. Apparently we have similar priorities. Except for that part where they sell most of their belongings and move to a foreign country to spread the gospel… and I stay home comfortably hiding from people who don’t fit into my nice casual Christian world…

The Cards lost. It is no longer ‘mathematically possible’ for us to make the playoffs. The Arkansas Travelers have clinched it. Congrats to Little Rock… I still hope we beat them over the next 5 games.

Flash backs of listening to high school girls basketball games on the radio. Listening to every play. Gritting teeth, closing eyes, hoping… Analyzing the theology behind praying for one’s sports team…. Deciding not to pray for victory… Losing…
