Life is random, so is my blog.

Attention: Friends and Family

As of today, Sarah’s middle name is no longer Beth. It is now Elizabeth. Unofficially.

A few days after Sarah was born, I started to regret giving her the shorter middle name. I asked Joel if we could change it and he acted like it would be too much trouble.

I decided that I would wait and ask Sarah which name she wanted.

After waiting three years, I asked Sarah tonight. Her eyes shined when I asked her if she would rather have Elizabeth as her middle name. She said it over and over. She loves that name. [And she's so cute when she says it.]

I looked into changing it legally. The fees cost more that that coffee roaster I’ve been wanting. I think I’ll save up my pennies and have it officially changed on her 4th birthday. But until then… Just humor us. Really this isn’t that weird… We’re just correcting a small hormone induced clerical error I made three years ago.

  1. I thought it was already Elizabeth and we were just shortening it to Beth. Hadn’t we discussed the affects the name would have on her presidential aspirations?

  2. Yes. Her presidential campaign often comes up when we discuss the middle name issue. Elizabeth is a much more appropriate middle name for the president…

  4. Good Grief Hillery, what in the world are you doing up this late? Go to bed… Or post on your blog and give me something to read.

  5. Elizabeth does sound more dignified. Amy, why are you telling Hillary to go to bed when you are posting 6 minutes after her. Don’t you need sleep also.

  6. I was being sarcastic. And she has an infant, so maybe she does need more sleep. Then again… he sleeps in.

  7. Hehe, I think it’s great that you’re going to change her middle name, and also that you asked her for her opinion. Every little girl’s dream.

  8. You know why I was up? BSF is on Tuesday morning. And had I done any of my homework? NO. And guess what, this week, we had about 60 verses to look up and study. Amazingly, with the help of the internet, I got it done! Why do I procrastinate?

  9. We named our daughter after my wife’s grandmother and my mother, Murle Louise, a very pretty name my wife and I thought.

Her older brother started calling her Sissy when she was still in the womb.

In 6th grade, Sissy informed my wife and I she was going to change her name: we prepared for the worse, had many a late night pillow talk (this was the green hair stage) and finally decided to go with it. Sissy became Cissy.

Then in high school, it began in earnest, self-nick named Sara–as in nobody doesn’t like Sara … –and after going to SMSU, sorry, MSU and having all the official documents as Murle Louise and being known as Sara, my wife and I, on the occasion of our daughter’s wedding to a very nice young man, gave her the money to change her name officially. It was quite a bit of hassle, as I recall, but our Murle Louise is now officially Sara.

Was it worth the effort? I’d much rather have had the money spent on a new monitor or even a utility bill, but, and this is a big but, our Sara is happy.

Go for it. The coffee pot can come later.

Jim…..father of two, grandfather of two. And believe me, grandkids are a lot more fun!
