Life is random, so is my blog.

Flushing toilets and putting on shoes

“Flush the toilet.” “Did you flush the toilet?” “Go back and flush the toilet.”

How many times must I remind my children? It used to be exciting. Everyone wanted to flush. But not so anymore. The enthusiasm has worn off. That shiny silver handle has become mundane… something to be ignored. The roar of the flush became a noise to be avoided.

And then there are their shoes… “Put on your shoes.” “Put-On-Your-Shoes!” “Where are your shoes?” “Sarah, they’re on the wrong feet again.”

Flush flush flush! Shoes shoes shoes…

Sometimes with kids you have to just keep telling them over and over and over.

I’m like that too. Thankfully God is patient. He keeps repeating himself. He’s reminding me again today:

BibleGateway Verse of the Day:

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. ”- Ephesians 6:10-11″

On November 8th, I wrote about Ephesians 6.

“I have been unsteady in my faith over the last week as we dealt with a roller coaster of emotions. Proverbs 24:10 says, “If you falter in times of trouble, how small is your strength!” My strength was small. But I am reminded that the Joy of the Lord is my strength. And that if I put on the shoes of peace that Paul writes about in Ephesians 6, I will not lose my footing, I will stand strong regardless of what comes against me. I confess, I’ve lost my footing multiple times over the last couple weeks.”

Jim Bradford spoke about the armor of God on my first Sunday at Central Assembly. That was also the day I closed our restaurant.

Bradford asked in his message, “Do I stand steady during testings?” He said that the shoes of peace will help us to stand steady no matter what we go through. We shouldn’t fall apart or lose our footing when things go wrong.

Alright already! I’ll put on my shoes.

  1. I’m glad to hear that my kids aren’t the only ones who don’t seem to be able to flush the toilet! And Jonathan is our “los zapatos al reves” boy!

Of course, we all stand to spend a bit more time getting ready for our daily battles, don’t we? Sometimes I feel that with all of the things that I have to do in a day, I put on my shoes, but I forget to tie them! Thanks for the reminder.

  2. This is gold. I’m thankful for a friend like you because even accross the country we seem to be on the same page…and when I want to sit down and pout on the journey (”perseverence…character…blech”) it’s good to have some one there the refresh the perspective…again. :)
