We got an email last night letting us know that Joel is being mobilized. We’re not yet sure where he will be sent. The kids and I will get an apartment in Springfield.
Of course this is both what I dreaded and what I hope for. I get to live in Springfield… but not with my husband. We’ll be OK though. This is what we signed up for. This is who we are now. An Army family.
This makes my first year at the seminary much, much easier. I won’t have to commute six hours one way. It’s also great for Joel’s Army career, he’ll be promoted much more quickly.
So, this is what’s best for us. And like many things that are good for you… well it tastes bad. Eventually if you keep eating your brussel sprouts you begin to acquire a taste for the little green veggies.

Yeah! That is so cool you don’t have
to move! But I am sorry have to be away from Joel- that is rough. Lauren is excited about seeing Jeremiah again! She was like “Really?! How do you know?”. So that is good.

I sure hope you don’t acquire a taste for mobilization, just a knack for getting through it.
Congratulations, though. It does make life that much easier.

Will,
I don’t want to acquire a taste for mobilization… just for what’s good for me.

I am so, so happy you are staying. But I will never eat brussel sprouts.

Never say never. It’s a sure fire way to get a full plate of brussel sprouts.

Hmm… I actually like brussel sprouts… roasted with a little kosher salt sprinkled on top… yum.

Yeb - we are a nation at war, although it hardly feels like it most of the time. We are hardly experiencing anything like the public did during the two Great Wars of the last century. Unless you or a loved one goes off to die or get maimed, of course. I am thankful that my Army days are over, and that I didn’t have to kill anyone, or get run over by a tank or something. Still, too bad I didn’t go on to retire from the Army with a nice pension.
