**Outdated Post See Note Below**
Kandahar, Afghanistan! We’re excited. We were hoping for Afghanistan. He will be a detachment commander. How cool is that?
By the way, Kandahar was founded by Alexander the Great and is famous for it’s pomegranates.
Note: Oh yeh, this is the Army, so everything is subject to change… Well everything but my love for pomegranates…
Another Note: Yeh so like I said everything changes in the Army. Joel isn’t going to be the detachment commander in Kandahar. For security reasons, I’m not saying where he’ll go.
This post is no longer accurate… except for the part about the pomegranates.

Pretty wild! So how long is he likely to be in Afghanistan?

He will be there a year. He goes to Mob Station in August and probably deploys in September. So he should be home September 2007.

Wow!! I’m glad its not Iraq, and I’m glad its not one of any number of places in this world. But it is a long way from Springfield, and we will pray for your sanity as you work to raise two children by yourself. God bless you both!! Hope you can come over for dinner soon!

Wild! and Cool. My only frame of reference for Afghanistan (beside media) are books: “The Kite Runner” and “Prisoners of Hope”. Have you read either of those? I enjoyed both of them.

@Robin: Nope I haven’t read either book. I’ll have to look for them.
@Dan: Thanks for the prayers. We’re looking forward to coming over!
