It may come as a surprise, but I actually have a few general ideas of how or what I want to write for this Web site. I know, I know it seems random doesn’t it? But, there are a few loose guidelines I try to follow.
My first blogging principle: Coffee Talk
I want to write as if we were sharing a pot of coffee at my dining room table. Some of you have actually been there… at my sticky oak table drinking a cup of coffee. You may have had to clear off a spot to put your mug down. You probably had to step over toys just to get to the dining room. But it was real. I welcomed you into my imperfect world and shared my life with you. And you shared yours.
The kitchen may have been a mess. But the coffee was good… or at least interesting. Maybe freshly roasted… french press, Vietnamese… a failed first attempt at using the siphon brewer.
I hope my blog is like that. Welcoming, conversational, friendly… real.
You may have to push aside some of the mess, or step over some of my rambling… but you’re welcome here.

I’ve written cold, impersonal, business like letters before. It didn’t turn out so well. Why? Because I forgot that a real person was reading what I wrote.
Seth Goodin recently wrote,
“The next time you get all formal or obfuscatory or snarky, ask a simple question, “If I knew this person and we were eating together in a restaurant, would I speak to them the same way?”
If the answer is no, why not?” - Seth Godin
