Here’s a list of the books I need for my classes at AGTS this semester. If you have any I can borrow or buy cheap, please let me know.
PTH 553 The Person of the Leader
“This course examines the development of the sense of self and its impact on ministry effectiveness. Attention will be given to the cultural, familial, intrapsychic and spiritual dynamics that influence this self understanding.”

HOM529 Communicating the Message I
” A comprehensive course dealing with essential and creative elements in the development of sermons. Attention will be given to all aspects of preparation and composition and to each part of the message. The theology and history of preaching, contemporary perspectives, methods, development of resources, and sermon analysis will also be considered. This course will enhance the skills of veteran preachers while providing a solid foundation for the less experienced.”

PTHM 520 Contemporary Family Ministry
“This course surveys the essential components of marriage and family counseling and parenting skills training. Its objective is to enable the minister, chaplain and family life educator to appropriately conceptualize family relationships and relational problems and to employ effective intervention strategies. Topics include: understanding the marital dyad, building healthy family relationships, and implementing effective parenting techniques. Students become familiar with relevant educational psychology theory to assist them in their ministry.”

Amy: I don’t have any of the books you need, but I sent you a donation (Pay Pal) for your book fund.
Praise God. He is our provider.

Hey, Amy, blatant plug here … there’s a book that should be on your list but isn’t, The Art and Craft of Biblical Preaching. Along with Haddon Robinson, this was edited by my friend and coworker Brian Larson, who is editor of one of CTI’s services for preachers (PreachingToday.com) and who is also a fine A/G pastor in downtown Chicago.
Plug or not, this is hands-down the finest book on preaching you will find anywhere for some time to come. I highly recommend you buy, not borrow, this book. It will help you in class, and will serve you well as a preaching resource for years. (Incidentally, I don’t benefit one whit from purchases, neither does Brian.) I have a review, here, if you’re interested.
Rich.

I just ordered:
Biblical Preaching,: The Development and Delivery of Expository Messages
A Work of Heart : Understanding How God Shapes Spiritual Leaders
Grace-Based Parenting
360-Degree Preaching: Hearing, Speaking, and Living the Word
Tamara says she has Cry of the Soul, Judi has Dark Side of Leadership
The other two books are for a class later in the semester. So I guess they can wait.
