The Oath
I took the Oath this morning at the end of our Army PREP marriage retreat. This was an extra special occasion because we shared it with other Army couples, many of them will be serving with Joel when he mobilizes. It was also nice to have three chaplains there and Joel’s Battalion Commander along with other high ranking and/or very cool individuals.

This is me trying not to cry while I say the oath.
The Oath:
“I, Amy Maxwell, having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of Second Lieutenant do solemnly affirm that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God.”

It seemed a little silly to shake my husband’s hand at a marriage retreat… and then they made us do it again so they could take a picture.

I am so proud of you, Amy. You are an Army wife doing what this Army wife always wanted to do… serve my country in a military capacity. I will not be jealous, I will not be jealous, I will not be jealous!
Congratulations, you look quite impressive in that uniform. I am glad Joel was able to administer the oath of office. Kind of neat.
