There’s a certain couple I know who have always been loyal Republicans. Proud citizens who love November. Each election you would find yard signs by their drive way and bumper stickers on their cars. You’d see them at campaign events and election night watch parties.

This time there are no bumper stickers. There are no yard signs. No cocktail shrimp at the Republican watch party. He’ll cast his vote for a Democrat. She won’t vote at all.

It’s a bad sign for Republicans.

Hello friends, forgive me for not replying to your comments, emails and phone calls.  This 8 to 5 class is wearing me out.  I studied until 1:30 this morning then woke up at 4:30.  By 5:30, I was at Wal-Mart.  By 6 I was studying at Krispy Kreme.  [It looked quieter than Ziggies and AGTS wasn't open yet.]

The test went OK and class was interesting all day.  I’m enjoying getting to know so many future military chaplains. Do most seminaries have this many chaplain candidates or am I just blessed?

I’m looking forward to tomorrow.  We’ll be discussing parenting.  All the talk of marital strife, domestic abuse, system theory, divorce and separation… was beginning to wear on me.  So many hurting people and too many technical terms.

I ran into Lisa Rose on Thursday. Well almost. As I entered Panera Bread, she was exiting. We had to step around each other and I said, “excuse me” or “sorry” or something else that a person says when they accidentally step in the way of a stranger. She didn’t though. She stopped the conversation she was having with the lady beside her long enough to smile and say, “hello!” As if we knew each other. As if we were friends.

And of course, I do feel like I know her. Though I doubt we’ve ever met, I have seen her on the KY3 evening news for years. I wonder if that is why she greeted me in such a friendly manner? Is it because all of the Ozarks feel like we know her so she in turn has to smile and act like she knows each of us?

How would life be different if you treated neighbors like that? Like they were good friends you hadn’t seen for a while? When someone steps in your way can you smile and say hello? Could you view them as a friend instead of a stranger blocking your path?

Update: Sorry, don’t know why the comments were turned off.

We had no Internet access for two and a half days. The Mediacom recording called it a service interruption in my area…

Sarah took it personal. She glared at the computer and cried, “Why you are doing this to me?” No she wasn’t blaming the computer. She was blaming me. People tend to do that when we don’t have Internet access.

Now that we’re back online, I do have a few things I want to share with you. But I’ll probably be out of service most of the week. I’m taking a week long module course during the fall break. Classes from 8 to 5. Midterm on Wednesday. Final on Friday. Papers due on Friday and on December first.

Joel’s home for the week! The kids are thrilled. Hopefully I’ll get to see him a little too.

I’m still trying to pick a Psalm to preach on in my homiletics class. I’ve been stumped for a while because someone already chose Psalm 63.

The sermon is 15 minutes long and has certain requirements which make me think the shorter the Psalm the better. So after reading through the Fifty Shortest Psalms… I’ve narrowed it down to these:

Psalm 121
Psalm 124
Psalm 130

Go read them then tell me which one you think I should choose. Vote in the poll and leave a comment if you’d like.

*disclaimer: I might not actually pick what you think I should… but I would appreciate the insight.

You’ve got to try Finetune!

“A revolutionary online music service where you can discover new music, create playlists, and organize your favorite artists and albums using descriptive tags. FREE unlimited listening with no download or subscription required.”

I think I may have just replaced Pandora. Finetune has artists that Pandora couldn’t find. MercyMe and Casting Crowns are major requirements for any GentleWhisper playlist.

ABC’s Diane Sawyer has been reporting live from North Korea. Western journalists are rarely allowed in the country, so this is a very cool thing.

You can watch the videos here.
