I just got a free GoBible in the mail today. Basically it’s a MP3 player gadget loaded with the complete Old and New Testaments. It’s simple to use and works without any computers, software, downloads or any of that stuff that freaks out the non-techy person in your family. [Which of course is the down side for geeks like me... I want to be able to install different versions and such.] Right now the GoBible comes in NKJV and KJV. Unfortunately, my sample version is a KJV. But it comes with free pizza so I’m happy.
Yes, free pizza. They sent me a one hundred dollar GoBible and a Papa John’s gift card so that I could invite friends over and show off this little black gadget.
Unfortunately, somebody at FedEx messed up and I got the package late. So all of my seminary buddies are going to miss out on the promised pizza. Which means my family in Texas or my new friends at CHOBC are going to enjoy the feast… but they’ll have to look at my shiny new GoBible first.
P.S. If you actually want to buy one of these, let me know before you order. They said there’s a discount if you order before Christmas. I don’t get anything if you order… so don’t feel pressured.
UPDATE: I’ve used the GoBible a little more and have decided that it is in fact way cool. At first I thought it was silly, why not just put the Bible on a regular MP3 player? This is way better. It goes verse by verse. Normally you’d only be able to go chapter by chapter. And you’d have to spend tons of time getting the playlist in your MP3 player to work right. This thing lets you bookmark, gives you a one year listening plan, and lets you listen by story or subject. Plus you can listen to one chapter while you’re navigating your way to the next.
Man I wish mine wasn’t a KJV.

That is so funny - I actually had just run across these online today. Thought they were neat for someone like my mom - but really didn’t like the version options.

Yep, I wish they had it in ESV. But the reader’s voice sounds good on the KJV version. I imagine it would be nice for older people who have lost their eyesight and prefer the KJV… How’s that for stereotyping? Actually, my five year old really loves it.

Could she see well enough to read the display? Or maybe a nurse could help?

Dear Amy, just want to follow up and see if you are still using the GoBible. If not, I would be interested in talking to you.
Please give me a holler.
