“PFC Daniel Zisumbo… died Feb. 27 in Bagram, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered from an improvised explosive device.” -militarycity
In other words, he’s the soldier killed by the bombing at Joel’s base earlier this week.
Here’s the story.
Jeremiah came up behind me while I was watching the video. He said, “Guess it is kinda dangerous over there.”

He was on guard with one of my Soldiers at the time.

And, as I commented at Joel’s blog, it makes me sad when the major headlines are all about whether or not VP Cheney was hurt, and nothing about PFC Zizumbo or the 22 other people killed. News from the MSM really frosts me sometimes.

I was stationed at Bagram in mid Jan’07 and worked out of the same building as Daniel. From what I understand it was his last day to be out at the gate. While I didn’t really know him, I had spoke to him in passing from time to time. We’d actually been out at the gate about an hour or so prior to the explosion, inventorying trucks. Whether Cheney’s presents had anything to do with the event I don’t know, I do know that Cheney wasn’t near enough to be in any danger.
I think of PFC Zizumbo from time to time, the loss his family is left and the sacrifice he made. I will always remember him and the events of that day.

Zizumbo, He was my battle in Germany, same unit/platoon/squad. He was a very stern soldier,… I miss him & so does everyone else that deployed with him & that was stationed with us at that time.
