Life under construction

Thanks for the ice cream

Debbie: Would you prefer God to lead you down an easier path?
Amy Maxwell: yep
Debbie: Do you want His will to always be easy?
Amy Maxwell: I’m not asking for easy. Just not this hard.

That’s just part of our Tuesday morning IM conversation. She continued to encourage me and I continued to complain.

That afternoon I picked the kids up from school and decided to give them a rare treat. I went through the Braums drive through and ordered two chocolate vanilla twist cones. When I handed Jeremiah his ice cream, he yelled at me. “Mean Mommy!” “You’re so mean, you know I don’t like cones. Cones are TOO HARD for me.”

He didn’t say thank you. He didn’t enjoy the treat in silence. He complained. He yelled, he called me mean. And then… he said it was too hard.

Too hard.

God has offered me a treat and I have replied, “You’re mean! It’s too hard!”

Forgive me Father…. and thanks for the ice cream.

  1. Interesting how God teaches us such relevant lessons through our children. Thank you for sharing.

  2. Yes, sometimes I want to knock on my daughter’s noggin and say “Don’t you remember how bad things used to be when your Mom was ill and after she died? You just don’t realize it but you have more time with me now and get to do more fun things than you used to but still it is not enough for you!!!” But then I turn around and find myself complaining (either out loud or in my head) about the way things are just like her.
