Friday
I had a paper due that day. I went to bed really late the night before and in my complete exhaustion prayed some rambling prayer asking God to wake me up when it was time to do my homework. I was so tired. I woke up at 3 am. Looked at the clock and said, “No. I will NOT get up this early.” I went back to sleep and an hour later woke up to a explosion of thunder and car alarms. I sat straight up and said, “Alright already!” As if God were trying a more practical technique for waking me up. After making sure we wouldn’t blow away I went back to sleep until five. Then the homework marathon began. I wrote and wrote and wrote all day long. I did ridiculous things to stay motivated and keep writing. But at the end of the day… I was finished before my paper was. I wrote an email to my professor saying I’d get the paper done as soon as possible.
Saturday
Feeling defeated and exhausted I packed up the kids and took them to a friend’s birthday party. I generally don’t like going to children’s birthday parties because I don’t know the parents well. But this party was for a Chaplain’s kid. I so love the people in our seminary’s Chaplain Candidate Fellowship. It seems like such a great blessing to just be with them. We were there for hours and I was able to talk to so many wonderful people. I must have looked a little worn out though… because people would offer me their seats and say I needed to rest. And more than once a friend would just walk up to me an hug me. Good long, hold this person up kinda hugs, not just the polite meet and greet hugs I’m used to. They must have known. As I went to leave the party, the hosts offered to keep my kids while I go to Wal*Mart. By. My. Self. Ahhh peace.
Sunday…
Note: Apparently I never finished writing this post. In fact, it was originally titled: A week of updates. I’m posting it several months later… guessing that it was written around June 8th, because on that fateful day… I didn’t turn in a paper. I’m publishing it undone on Feb 29th, 2008.
