Last Day At The Beach

To my left, the sounds of the ocean sneak through an open patio door, Celtic worship music softly plays on my laptop and I hear breakfast sizzling in the kitchen to the right. Everyone here is still asleep. Chris and his mom left an hour or two ago to spend the day deep sea fishing. This is our last day at the beach.

We’ve been in Florida with Rachel and her family since Saturday night. Several days later, I still find myself surprised to see the ocean and my good friends nearby. I’ve never been on a vacation like this and we won’t be able to afford a one until we’re out of debt. Knowing this, the waves outside my window seem so very surreal, as if each one is a gentle yet powerful reminder of God’s love. His mercies are new every morning. His blessings keep washing over me. Wave after wave after wave. Some waves are so powerful and unexpected they knock me down… like overwhelming joy or the IRS forgiving us 28,000 dollars. Other waves are just as unexpected, but more constant gentle and refreshing like good friends and relaxing days. God is so good to me.

The calming sound of the ocean. The dynamite changing power of it’s constant waves. Its unfathomable size. All reminders of God’s love for us.

“that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” – Eph 3:17-19

How Deep and Wide is the love of Christ? More than any ocean outside my door.

  1. Your posting of Ephesians brought tears to my eyes of joy. I have my own journey and dark valleys from which this prodigal will one day reign with our Majestic Royal Diadem. All goodness and mercy comes from he would et the foundations of this universe, he who rescues captives and holds His children close to hear His heartbeat. They days grow short for us to embrace Him full and see Him face to face as the last throes of evil are desperate for dominion they will be cut off in utter defeat. All hail The King, The Lion of Judah shall reign forever, and ever again amen.
