Life under construction

One Year in the Army

One year ago today, I took the oath and became a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army.

It has been quite the year. My husband has been gone the entire time, either preparing for mobilization, or actually deployed to Afghanistan with the US Army Reserves. Meanwhile, I completed the first six weeks of the Chaplain Basic Officer Leadership Course at Fort Jackson and I’m starting my third semester of seminary.

I think this might have been a tad bit easier if my husband were home. Maybe that’s why I said the last part of the oath…

“So help me God.”

He has helped me and I’m so very excited to be an Army Chaplain Candidate. Tomorrow, I get to wear my uniform and serve at a chapel service held at our denomination’s headquarters.

Let me say that one more time. I get to wear my uniform at a chapel service on September the 11th. Wait, it gets better. Most of my fellow AGTS Chaplain Candidates will be there with me. Oh there’s more… one of my good friends will be taking the oath tomorrow. I couldn’t possibly be more excited.

  1. That is even more than cool! You rock girl! I’m so proud of you, and brag about you all the time.

    Did I ever mention that I was at headquarters chapel when I heard about 9/11? Weird. Only time I have ever been there, was there listening to some classmates do a presentation on some very forgotten subject. Trask got up and told us the news of the trade center. I drove home just shocked so that Joey and I could sit on the couch and just be together staring at the TV.

    I’m glad you will be there tomorrow representing our country and our soldiers who are so far away. Keep up the good work girl! Love.

  4. *I meant have fun wearing your uniform. I’m sure the service itself will be kind of somber. *

  5. Thanks everyone. {Hey Rach, that leaf is way cool… if I do say so myself. I think I need a new favicon.}

  8. Goodness everyone, I didn’t write this post fishing for praises, I just wanted a good excuse to tell you that I get to wear my uniform today and I’m terribly excited about that. :)

  11. I look forward to hearing about your day. I’m sure you looked smashing in your uniform. I have been HOT in mine all day–walking around in 100 degree heat. Makes me appreciate even more our troops in Iraq.
