About This Site

What is Gentlewhisper.com?
Gentlewhisper.com is a personal Web site written and designed by
Amy Maxwell

This site currently takes the form of a ‘blog.’  That
means:

  • Articles or "posts" are published in reverse chronological order. - The most recent content is on  top of the front page.
  • Posts are organized into Categories
  • Posts are dated as far back as 1993.  Browse through the years by visiting the Archives.
  • You can comment on any post.  Just click on the link at the bottom of each post which says the number of comments that have been left so far.
  • You can subscribe to this Web site and receive posts in your email, feed reader or on your start page.
  • Over the years, I’ve written about numerous topics.  You can search the site to find anything I’ve written. There’s a search box on the left side of the page.  [The Sidebar]

Speaking of sidebars… The sidebars contain all kinds of goodies:

  • Menu
  • Categories, Archives, Search
  • A list of recent posts
  • A list of recent comments
  • Links, Resources, Book suggestions…
  • Bookmarking and subscription options.
  • And whatever else I decide to stick on there on any given day.

History:

In 1996, my father-in-law gave me a computer. I dialed up and life has never been the same. That summer I discovered chat rooms. I needed a ‘username’ quick. Remembering a poem I had written in high school, I decided to call myself GentleWhisper. The name stuck. Soon I stumbled upon the wonders of Geocities and free web hosting. GentleWhisper’s Java House was born. In May of 1999, I registered the domain name, gentlewhisper.com. The site has been redesigned and sporadically updated countless times. I finally discovered blogging in 2004. Now you don’t have to wait 8 months to read
something new.

Why GentleWhisper? 1 Kings 19:11-12 tells the story of a low point in Elijah’s life. Elijah cried out to God, “I am the only one left, and now they want to kill me too.” But God did not leave him alone, he spoke to him in a “gentle whisper.” His words brought comfort to Elijah in a desperate situation, and today He still offers comfort in the form of a gentle whisper.
