Sarah started crying within a few minutes of coming home from school. Then the sibling fighting began, quickly followed by insane whining… We HAD to get out of the house! So the two of us left for a little girl time. We talked in the car about all of her troubles. [a substitute kindergarten teacher and spilled bubbles] Then we headed to the Japanese Stroll garden. We hadn’t been there for over three years.
When we got home, Jeremiah saw the pictures and said he wanted to go too. Since I kept my receipt, I got to take Jer for free. Sarah and I took our time, looked at everything, took tons of photos. Jeremiah and I practically ran through the garden. It was getting dark so we didn’t get a lot of pictures. But we did have fun!
I finished my last class of the semester on Tuesday night and left for Tennessee on Wednesday morning. A trip to visit Rachel means hiking at Frozen Head State Park. Here are a few photos:

Celebrating the return of spring, I hiked a few miles at the Nature Center yesterday morning. Such a beautiful day made it hard to imagine the freezing weather we had last week. Maybe Saturday’s snow was just a dream.

I sat on a bench next to this bridge and prepared for Thursday’s Bible Study. I studied to the sound of water tumbling down a short waterfall, birds singing, and squirrels chasing each other through the leaves.
As I continued down the trail, I looked at this bridge and asked myself, “Do you trust the bridge builder?”

Do you trust the Bridge Builder?
Do you ever look at where you are and where you need to be and wonder how in the world you’re going to get there?
“I shall be telling you all the time,” said Aslan. “But I will not tell you how long or short the way will be; only that it lies across a river. But do not fear that, for I am the great Bridge Builder. - C.S.Lewis, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

This is the Old Iron Bridge. To find it, take the Long Trail at the Nature center then take the cut off to the Greenways trail. [It says 2.5 miles to Sequiota Park] Instead of turning left when you get to the paved greenway trail, turn right. [map] Of course you could just drive there… but what fun is that?

Another bridge on the Long Trail.

It’s that time of year again… time for me to wish I were the kind of person who would enter this race.
Two years ago I posted about the race and said how much I wished I could do something like this.
I’m getting a little closer. I’m in a lot better shape than I was back in 2005, and I might even know where I can find a few friends to be on my team. Oh and I’ve gotten much better at orienteering. No GPSr needed.
Still no mountain bike though.
I think I could do this next year. Anyone want to join me? Anyone got a spare bicycle.
